"....Growing up in a lighting family seemed normal until I realized, in 1966, that ours was the only house with dimmers. Sample lights were always around, and climbing theatre catwalks at 14 years old is still a special memory. Family gatherings doubled as lighting meetings, so my exposure started early."

Bruce began his lighting career in 1979, joining the outgrowth of the family business, Chesapeake Lighting Associates. Additional design experience was gained working for lighting consultant, Scott M. Watson, IALD, LC, IES. In 2000, he joined the partnership of Crampton/Dunlop Architectural Lighting Services, LLC to serve the growing needs of the Baltimore architectural community. In 2007, Bruce Dunlop Lighting Design was formed to more closely address the lighting needs and energy realities of the 21st century.

Bruce is a member of the Professional Lighting Designersí Association (PLDA), the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the National Council for Qualifications of the Lighting Professions (NCQLP). In addition, he is a member of the IES Baltimore Section, IES Education Committee Chair from 1998 to 2012, co-founder of the MICA/IES Lighting Lab, member of the American Society for Photobiology and affiliate member of AIA/Baltimore.

Philosophy

Today, lighting equipment technologies and research in human visual needs are rapidly expanding. Sensitively applied, these new tools offer exciting opportunities to enhance the form and function of architectural spaces.

Over 30 years of experience in the design, specification and application of lighting provides the background necessary to utilize these new tools. We have the ability to work with the design team as a meaningful catalyst in the development of effective and appropriate lighting schemes for commercial and institutional projects.

We continue to develop and present lectures, workshops and seminars, using our upbeat, straightforward style to engage stakeholders in meaningful and productive conversations about light and human vision.
